acupuncture1Katie Powell qualified as a registered nurse in 1987 and worked for 6 years within the areas of acute and accident emergency medicine, both in St Richard’s Hospital Chichester, and Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Portsmouth.

Her interest in acupuncture developed from years of nursing care, where she increasingly noticed how modern life with all of its emotional and physical stresses and strains impacts on people’s health.

Katie studied Chinese medicine (TCM) and Five Element acupuncture for 4 years and gained a BSc (Hons), including 12 months of clinical practice at the college of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading.

At the heart of her practice is the ethos of informed choice, supportive care and safe practice. She regularly attends continuing professional development seminars to enhance her theoretical and practical skills, and has recently attended post graduate courses on topics such as obstetrics and infertility, and musculoskeletal pain.

acupuncture2Katie is a member of the Acupuncture Fertility Network (AFN). The AFN is a group of acupuncturists with a special interest in supporting couples with fertility issues. Members of this group are all members of the British Acupuncture Council who have undertaken post graduate training in the fields of gynaecology & fertility. She is also keen to support women through pregnancy & primary care stays with the midwife and medical team.

Acupuncture is most widely known as a treatment to relieve pain, however, other factors such as poor diet and work stress can cause imbalances leaving your body struggling to maintain it’s health balance. I also practice Tuina (pronounced “tweenar”), which is Chinese remedial massage. It’s used in conjunction with  the acupuncture treatment for many painful conditions.

Initial consultation £50. This detailed diagnostic session lasts about 1.5 – 2 hours and includes your first acupuncture treatment.

Follow up appointments £40 – about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
